The transformative month of October is here. The colors are vibrant as nature prepares for a shift, with the nights growing cooler and longer.
Astrologically, the planet in focus this month is Jupiter. On October 18, Jupiter moves to Cancer, the sign of his exaltation– but only for a short time. On December 5, Jupiter returns to Gemini.
Because Jupiter is so influential this month, let’s first take a closer look at his qualities.
The planet Jupiter is called Guru in Sanskrit because he is said to be the great teacher who dispels the darkness of ignorance with the light of knowledge and wisdom.
Jupiter’s primary attribute is his quality of expansion and growth. He himself is the largest planet in our solar system. He expands our consciousness by broadening our knowledge and wisdom. He expands our horizon through travel. And he can extend the size of the family because he also represents children.
All planets have both positive and negative aspects. Jupiter’s challenging side is that he may become overly confident and arrogant. Jupiter can overexpand, and he is responsible for inflation. He can be indulgent and is sometimes to blame for excessive weight.
However, overall Jupiter is an optimistic planet that gives us hope. He is benevolent and adds grace and light to our lives. Jupiter is generous and can also give wealth and prosperity.
Jupiter entered Gemini on May 14, 2025 and will remain until October 18. Jupiter’s transit in a sign usually lasts for a year, which means that Jupiter’s transit through Gemini is faster than usual.
Gemini is a sign that governs intellect, communication, and information, and we are now experiencing unprecedented growth and activity in these fields. For example, AI and many technical communication devices are currently making rapid progress, transforming work and the structure of our lives.
Unfortunately, some of these technical advancements are rising faster than our wisdom and inner growth. The use of drones, for example, is now also used for destruction and terror.
Jupiter enters Cancer on October 18, 2025.
Jupiter slows down remarkably as he reaches Cancer. This is because Jupiter becomes stationary, preparing for his retrograde beginning on November 11. He actually stays at zero degrees Cancer during this brief transit in Cancer.
Although Jupiter is weakened from being on the cusp between Gemini and Cancer for such a long time, this is offset by the fact that he is Vargottoma for most of the year. A planet is Vargottoma when it occupies the same sign in both the birth chart and the divisional chart that represents dharma and relationships (D9). Vargottoma greatly enhances Jupiter’s positive qualities.
Jupiter is exalted in Cancer, a water sign ruled by the Moon. Since the Moon governs the mind, this transit gives us a sense of optimism. Jupiter in Cancer is well-suited for emotional nurturing and growth, making it an excellent time for counseling and therapy work.
Cancer rules home and family. The nurturing quality of Jupiter in Cancer also favors growing your own vegetables, and flowers. Since Jupiter governs wisdom and knowledge, his exaltation in Cancer favors the pursuit of learning and education.
Jupiter in Cancer will aspect the other water signs: Scorpio and Pisces. The water signs are intuitive and feeling oriented. Jupiter’s trine aspect on Saturn in Pisces manifests a balance between restriction and expansion.
On December 5, Jupiter returns to Gemini and will then stay in Gemini until June 1, 2026.
Here are the dates for Jupiter’s transit:
Spanning from 20 degrees Gemini to 3:20 in Cancer, Jupiter transits the Punarvasu nakshatra between August 12, 2025, and June 18, 2026. This is a very long period for Jupiter to stay in the same nakshatra. This is because Jupiter will change from direct to retrograde and then move direct again– all in the same nakshatra.
Punarvasu is an auspicious nakshatra ruled by Jupiter. Jupiter is comfortable in his own nakshatra. Punarvasu means “the return of the light”, “make good again”, or restoration. Punarvasu gives us a second chance and is good for purification and new beginnings.
Manifest Thyself to me, O Father, as the light of reason and as the blaze of wisdom, as the breeze of amity and of self-expanding harmony. Manifest Thyself through the song of atoms and electrons, whose music-vibration encompasses the universe. Teach me to hear Thy cosmic voice which first commanded all vibration to begin, inspiring every pinpoint of Creation to sing its own special melody. Oh, let me hear within me Thy cosmic voice, so long hidden behind the hubbub of outer Creation. Let my magic wand of meditation touch all sounds and melt them into the One cosmic sound of Aum. Lo! how it courses, o’er the earth, in the sky, and far out from Earth to reach the stars. Appear to me as Aum, Aum, Aum, Thy cosmic song, which gives life to and infuses all sounds. Every cell of my body, every nerve, every ripple of my thoughts now sings with Thy great cosmic anthem: Aum!

In September 2025, we will see two eclipses. Eclipses are powerful and serve as catalysts for change in the world.
Many planets are continuing their retrograde as August arrives. We will also see tension between Mars and Saturn, due to a mutual opposition between the two planets.
Major planetary shifts occurred last month, and we should notice a different energy in June.
