Jupiter entered Cancer on June 1, 2026, and will remain here, with one interruption, until June 26, 2027.He moves into Leo briefly on October 31 and returns to Cancer on January 24, 2027, for the final leg of his stay.
This is a transit worth understanding in some depth. Jupiter is exalted in Cancer, meaning he expresses his finest qualities here: wisdom, abundance, faith, and moral guidance. Yet this is also a complex journey. Before Jupiter moves on to Leo, he will cross the difficult Gandanta threshold three times, travel in close company with Ketu, and be joined by Mars. The first part of his stay in Cancer is genuinely supportive. The later months ask more of us.
Jupiter is a teacher. He represents wisdom and knowledge. Often, we encounter his influence through a teacher, a counselor, a doctor, or a lawyer: someone with expertise who guides us toward better decisions. Jupiter governs higher education and law, and he also represents wealth and abundance.
In Sanskrit, Jupiter is called Guru. He is considered a benefic planet, one that brings kindness and support. In his higher aspect, he can serve as a spiritual teacher, a source of wisdom guiding our inner journey.
Jupiter also governs dharma: the ethical and moral principles that lead us to right thinking and right action.
However, all planets have a challenging side. Negative expressions of Jupiter include over-expansion, inflation, blind optimism, self-indulgence, and arrogance.
Jupiter is exalted in Cancer, which means this is the sign where he expresses his qualities most fully. He is also friends with the Moon, Cancer's ruling planet. Cancer is nurturing and protective, governing the home and family. At its heart, Cancer seeks security and belonging. Jupiter can bring outer prosperity, but also something deeper: his expansive optimism and his capacity to instill faith and trust.
Jupiter enters Cancer on June 1. Venus joins him on June 8, and Mercury follows on June 22, briefly bringing three benefic planets together in this sign. Mercury retrogrades back into Gemini on July 6, but for those few weeks, Cancer becomes a particularly active and supportive place for communication, learning, and connection.
The summer solstice falls on June 21, the longest day of the year and a time for celebration and renewal. This year, it carries additional planetary support: Jupiter is near its exaltation degree of 5 degrees Cancer. This is the exaltation point where Jupiter’s qualities of hope, nurturing, and abundance are most strongly expressed. Venus is also in Cancer. The outer world offers its fullest light in the northern hemisphere at this time of year, and the planets offer something that matches it.
In Vedic astrology, when a planet is exalted or in its own sign and occupies an angular house (the 1st, 4th, 7th, or 10th, which are the four corners, or the foundations of the chart), it forms what is called a Mahapurusha Yoga. This configuration allows the planet to express its finest qualities. Jupiter's version of this yoga is called Hamsa Yoga and is associated with wisdom, abundance, and knowledge.
With Jupiter exalted in Cancer, four signs benefit from Hamsa Yoga by transit. For Cancer, it falls in the 1st house, strengthening the sense of self and personal direction. For Libra, Jupiter transits the 10th house, supporting work and career. For Capricorn, this yoga falls in the 7th house, bringing support to relationships and partnerships. For Aries, Jupiter transits the 4th house, benefitting home and family life.
From Cancer, Jupiter casts a trine aspect to the other water signs, Scorpio and Pisces. A trine is a harmonious 120-degree angle between signs of the same element, considered a very supportive connection in Vedic astrology. This means Scorpio and Pisces receive Jupiter's influence directly, and Saturn and Neptune, currently in Pisces, are also touched by it. For all three water signs, this transit tends to heighten intuition, compassion, and the desire to understand spiritual reality.
The nakshatras are the 27 lunar mansions of Vedic astrology. The Moon takes just over 27 days to circle the zodiac and spends roughly one day in each nakshatra. As Jupiter moves through Cancer, he passes through three nakshatras, each with its own quality and emphasis.
Punarvasu (Jupiter is here until June 18) is ruled by Jupiter himself and is known as the star of renewal. Its name means "make it good again," and it carries the qualities of healing, repair, and restoration.
Pushya (June 18 to August 18) is ruled by Saturn, but its presiding deity is Brihaspati, another name for Jupiter. This is where Jupiter reaches his exaltation degree of 5 degrees Cancer. Pushya is known as the star of nourishment and is associated with deep spiritual wisdom.
Ashlesha (August 18 to October 31) is the final nakshatra in Cancer, ruled by the Nagas, powerful hidden forces associated with wisdom and the dormant Kundalini energy. Ashlesha is known as the clinging star. Its final degree is part of Gandanta, the junction point between Cancer and Leo, which is explored in the next section.
Magha (October 31 to January 24, 2027) is the first nakshatra in Leo, associated with leadership and power. Its opening degree is also Gandanta. Jupiter's passage through this point carries significant weight, as discussed below.
Ashlesha again (January 24 to June 26, 2027): Jupiter retrogrades back into Cancer and spends the remainder of his stay in Ashlesha, where the main themes are transformation, depth, and hidden wisdom.
Because Jupiter is in Gandanta three times during this transit, it is important to understand the role of Gandanta.
Gandanta is the junction zone between a water sign and a fire sign. Water signs represent endings and spiritual liberation (moksha), while fire signs represent duty and purpose (dharma). The shift is illustrated by the transition from Pisces, the last sign of the zodiac, to Aries, the first: from dissolution to new beginnings, from inward release to outward action. Moving from one to the other means a change of environment and consciousness.
This junction point is said to carry significant karma. Gandanta literally means "karmic knot," and it is considered one of the more difficult points in the zodiac to navigate.
Jupiter crosses the Gandanta point between Cancer and Leo three times before his final entry into Leo. He first enters Leo on October 31, passing through the Gandanta zone from October 19 to November 15. The Gandanta zone covers the last 1°40' of a water sign and the first 1°40' of a fire sign. He then stations and retrogrades back into Cancer, crossing Gandanta again from January 7 to February 5, 2027. His third and final crossing comes as he leaves Cancer for good, from June 15 to July 5, 2027.
Each of these crossings carries the weight of karmic turbulence. When Jupiter enters Leo on October 31, he immediately encounters Ketu, and Mars joins them on November 13. This conjunction of three powerful planets, Jupiter, Ketu, and Mars, at the Gandanta degree is significant, and we will look at it more closely in the sections that follow.
During a large part of Jupiter’s second transit in Cancer from January through June 2027, Jupiter and Ketu are traveling together. So, how does Ketu influence Jupiter’s time in Cancer?
Ketu, the south node of the Moon, relates to past karma, and Ketu's transits often bring change, reorganization, and sometimes unsettling circumstances. Ketu's energy can feel disruptive but also clears the way for something new. Since Jupiter represents wealth, his close transit with Ketu can also represent financial disruption.
Spiritually, Ketu is associated with Ganesha, widely known as the remover of obstacles. Ketu embodies non-attachment and the wisdom that comes from letting go of the ego. Where Jupiter brings expansion, Ketu represents the non-material, and together they form a powerful combination for inner growth.
The American midterm elections take place on November 3, just days after Jupiter enters Leo on October 31. At the time of the election, Jupiter is less than a degree into Leo, still within the Gandanta zone. He is joined by Ketu and the Moon. Leo is the sign of leadership and governance, and this cluster of planets in Gandanta suggests instability, uncertainty, and the possibility of unexpected outcomes.
Mars enters Leo on November 13, joining Jupiter and Ketu at the Gandanta degree. Mars (a planet of action, conflict, and force) in close conjunction with Ketu can indicate confrontation, both collectively and individually. Both planets act quickly and without much warning.
On November 14, Mars, Jupiter, and Ketu are all within one degree of each other at the Gandanta point in Leo. Three powerful planets together at a karmic threshold in the sign of leadership is a significant alignment. It suggests that something unresolved in the world, and perhaps within ourselves, needs to be addressed.
When Ketu enters Cancer on December 5, and Jupiter retrogrades back into Cancer on January 24, 2027, the two planets begin a long, close passage together.
From February 13 until May 5, 2027, Jupiter and Ketu remain within one degree of each other, an unusually tight conjunction sustained over several months. This is not an easy period to navigate, but it carries real spiritual potential. Jupiter's wisdom and expansive faith can help us work with Ketu's impulse toward introspection and non-attachment. They invite us to turn toward simplicity, reflection, and a deeper reliance on inner guidance rather than outer circumstance.
Mars retrogrades back into Cancer on March 9, 2027, which adds intensity to an already charged combination. He returns to Leo on April 26. By late May, Jupiter and Ketu begin to separate as Ketu continues retrograde and Jupiter moves forward toward Leo.
There are, of course, other things happening astrologically during this important time, but Jupiter’s transit is one important part of the picture.
Jupiter is exalted in Cancer, and the first part of his stay is a time to receive what Jupiter offers, to learn, to grow, and to strengthen our foundation before the more demanding months ahead.
Before Jupiter’s final move into Leo in June 2027, much needs to be cleared. The correction of old karma may not come gently.
Yet, this is also a time of real spiritual possibility. Jupiter and Ketu together can heighten intuition, deepen practice, and draw us toward simplicity and reflection. Jupiter’s influence can also bring forth spiritual leaders.
In times like these, the guidance of Paramhansa Yogananda feels particularly relevant:
"Attunement means also listening for the guru's inner guidance, in your heart. In everything, ask him mentally what you should do; how you should behave; how you can love God more deeply."
Blessings,
Lina
The planetary alignments this May are among the most positive of the year, offering genuine support for communication, creativity, and new beginnings.
April 2026 is astrologically intense and unstable. When Mercury enters Pisces on April 10, there will be 5 planets transiting Pisces.
As March begins, we are in an intense time between two eclipses. Eclipses can transform our consciousness by exposing secrets and bring unexpected changes.
