The New Year begins with a cluster of planets in Sagittarius. On January 3rd, a full Moon in Gemini fully aspects this cluster of planets in Sagittarius. By the middle of January, these planets will all move into Capricorn, where we will also have a new Moon on January 18.
In the first part of January, there is a strong focus on Sagittarius - the sign where many planets are transiting. So it is helpful to take a look at the qualities of this sign in order to understand the planetary influences this month.

Sagittarius is portrayed by a centaur who is also a skilled archer, shooting an arrow into space. The archer is aiming high. But what is he actually aiming for? This is a question many of us need to ask ourselves at this time. What is our intention? What are we aiming for in 2026?
Adventurous and seldom happy with the status quo, Sagittarius is often on a journey. The final destination of the journey might not be clear, but it is relevant for Sagittarius to understand its purpose. The archer shoots into the distance for answers.
The reason the archer in Sagittarius shoots an arrow into space is because of the quest for expansion, truth, and dharma. No longer satisfied with his ego, the archer aims high and asks the larger universe. Sagittarius will often draw a teacher. This is the sign of higher knowledge, of philosophy, universal law, and spirituality.
With so much energy in Sagittarius this January, we are called to be honest about the broader meaning of life, dharma, and truth.
On January 3, shortly after coming into 2026, we experience a full Moon. The Moon is in Gemini, in Ardra Nakshatra. Ardra Nakshatra is ruled by Rudra, the God of storms.
Are we facing a storm? We could be. But the time before a storm has a special quiet. Sagittarius rules dharma, morals, and law, but the Moon in Gemini is opposite Sagittarius, highlighting disharmony and lack of dharma there.
Mars and Venus (relationships) are very close to the Sun (power); its brightness blinds both. This is a time when abuse of power needs to be addressed. Mercury, the planet of communication, is affected as well. This energy may put a strain on relationships.
This full Moon in Gemini, reveals any adharma (lack of alignment with truth and righteousness) that needs to be addressed.
The full Moon on January 3 is also asking us to face our values and to have our values reflect truth. This also means addressing any areas in our own lives, or on a societal level, where we’re not acting in alignment with true values.
Storms are intense, but after a storm comes clarity. Luckily, the full Moon has Jupiter next to it, adding guidance.
Venus begins the shift of planets migrating into Capricorn on January 12. At the time of the New Moon on January 18, several planets are transiting Capricorn: Venus, Sun, Mars, and Mercury. Pluto is also transiting Capricorn over the long term (2020-2040).
Capricorn is an Earth sign. Capricorn governs structure, and especially with the deeply transformative Pluto transiting this sign, we are seeing structural changes in societies, finances, governments, and institutions.
With many planets in Capricorn, there is a higher risk for environmental problems. Structural changes can occur due to flooding or drought. Saturn, the ruler of Capricorn, is transiting the water sign Pisces.
The new Moon takes place in Uttara Ashadha. This Nakshatra is ruled by the Sun and Saturn rules Capricorn. This Sun/Saturn combination in the Uttara Ashadha nakshatra expresses ambition, leadership, and endurance.
Before we continue into the new year, there is some cleaning up to do. Sagittarius is about dharma, and we need to be clear about dharma when we go into Capricorn, because Capricorn deals with how we structure our lives on earth.
“Yata dharma, sthata jaya: Where there is right action, there lie victory, success, and happiness in all things.”

This December begins with a powerful full Moon that reveals resistance to change, and later brings a new Moon that signals powerful shifts and new beginnings.
Seven planets are retrograde this November, making this a suitable time for reflection, reevaluation, and deep introspection.
Jupiter is very influential this October. The planet will move to Cancer, the sign of his exaltation on October 18– but only for a short time before returning again to Gemini.
