From an astrological perspective, we are moving into the most intense part of the year, with dramatic upcoming transits in May and June. The energy of the planets heats up during May and reaches a culmination in mid-June with major planetary confrontations.

New Moon on May 4th

Mercury is making his transit in Aries between May 3rd and May 18th. The new Moon in Aries on May 4th marks the beginning of a new cycle of activities.

Activity in Gemini

Mars joins Rahu and in Gemini on May 6th. Mars is a technical planet and Gemini is the sign of communication. The exchange of signs between Mercury and Mars also connects the two planets.

Rahu amplifies and enlarges everything he comes in contact with while Mercury rules communication and trade.

Divisiveness and Fundamentalism

Mars and Rahu in Gemini are opposed by Saturn, Ketu and Pluto transiting Sagittarius. This results in a high degree of confrontational energy.

Saturn and Ketu are transiting the nakshatra called Purva Ashadha.  Purva Ashadha has the power to energize, but Saturn has the power to block and delay. The deity for Purva Ashadha is Apas - the water god - and Saturn/Ketu in Purva Ashadha can cause drought, or stir up storms––both figuratively and literally.

The close conjunction between Ketu and Saturn can make us doubt our foundations. Sagittarius governs law and the legal system and important battles are now being fought within the legal system.

Saturn/Ketu in Purva Ashadha can also give rise to a higher degree of extremism and fundamentalism. The tension culminates around mid June with a Mars and Rahu conjunction at 24 degrees in Gemini. Saturn conjuncts Ketu at 24 degrees Sagittarius.  All four malefic planets will line up on the same degree in the Gemini/Sagittarius axis. The combination indicates explosive energy, power struggles and attempts to gain control. The potential for anger, violence and accidents are much higher than normal.

What Does This Mean for You?

Some people may experience a feeling of being blocked during this time, while others will find it easy to get a lot done. This depends on your personal chart and what area of your life these planets will activate. However, everyone needs to pay special attention to how they communicate with others, because arguments can be unusually explosive right now. Take extra care if you travel, both short distances and long journeys. If possible, avoid being in crowded places. This is an excellent time to simplify your lifestyle, be open to your intuition, and work on staying calm and centered.
