As we enter March, the future seems uncertain. The world is facing big challenges, especially regarding the spread of the Coronavirus. Can the stars give us some insights into what’s happening?
We have been experiencing Kala Sarpa Yoga since February 24th, and will remain in this yoga until May 31st.
Kala Sarpa Yoga occurs when all planets are hemmed in between the lunar nodes, Rahu and Ketu. This yoga often manifests a divisiveness and imbalance.
The Moon moves through all the signs during a month and thus breaks the Kala Sarpa Yoga for 14 days every month. This March the full Kala Sarpa Yoga is in effect during the second half of the month. One can say that we are “in the grip of Rahu and Ketu” whose energy is intense during this period.
The energy of the lunar nodes is intensified by Rahu’s transit in Ardra nakshatra in the sign Gemini, and Ketu’s transit in Moola nakshatra in Sagittarius. Ardra, whose deity is Rudra, is ruled by Rahu. Rudra is the lord of storms and the god of destruction. This fierce nakshatra is associated with correction and cleansing.
Moola nakshatra is ruled by Ketu. One of the symbols for Moola is a tied bunch of roots. Moola often looks for the root causes of things and a lot of research takes place in this nakshatra. It is a sharp nakshatra that can cause pain. The last time Rahu and Ketu made their transit through these intense nakshatras was when 9/11 took place in 2001.
Mercury will finally break the Kala Sarpa Yoga on May 31st when he moves past Rahu.
Rahu will remain in Ardra until May 20th, and Ketu will remain in Moola until September 22nd. At that time Ketu moves into Scorpio and Rahu moves into Taurus.
Mercury has been retrograde since February 16th, but turns direct and goes full strength on the day of the full moon, March 9th. This favors straightforward communication.
On March 17th Mercury will be back in Shatabhisha nakshatra. This is where Mercury was before he turned retrograde. Shatabhisha is a nakshatra connected with universal healing and the discovery of many medicines.
Mercury remains in Shatabhisha nakshatra until the end of the month, and will remain in the sign of Aquarius until April 7th. Mercury is strong in Aquarius but is debilitated in the sign that follows next, Pisces.
Mars is active and energetic together with Jupiter in Sagittarius until March 21st when he moves into Capricorn with Saturn. This is quite a shift for the expression of Mars.
Mars is with a friend (Jupiter) in Sagittarius but with an enemy (Saturn) in Capricorn. However, Mars is exalted in Capricorn. In fact, both malefic planets, Mars and Saturn, are strong in Capricorn. The energies of the two planets are calculated, disciplined, focused and organized. This is sometimes a recipe for war but this time the war may be expressed as an international combined effort against the spread of the Coronavirus.
Jupiter came into his own sign Sagittarius in November and has moved very quickly through the sign since then. Jupiter actually moves into Capricorn on March 29th where he will stay for three months. He eventually goes retrograde and is back in Sagittarius on June 29th.
While in Capricorn, the normal qualities of Jupiter are weakened. He is dominated by Saturn who not only rules the sign but is currently also transiting Capricorn.
The normally expansive Jupiter will have to exercise restraint. Travel, expansion, business, wealth and optimism will not be as strong during these three months. Jupiter’s typical optimistic sense of freedom in Sagittarius will diminish and give way to a Saturnian sense of duty and restriction.
Jupiter is Vargottama for long periods of time this year. The term Vargottama means that Jupiter occupies the same sign in the Navamsa chart (chart for Dharma) as in the main astrological chart. Vargottama adds to the strength of a planet.
Because Jupiter is in debilitation in both the main astrological chart, as well as the Navamsa chart, his normal expression is not strong. However, Jupiter feels an attunement with his dharma. A vargottama Jupiter gives us the strength to follow dharma. Even though it may be challenging, Jupiter will help us do what is right.
Venus will transit Aries for most part of March, but on March 28th Venus will move into Taurus, a sign ruled by Venus. Venus will have a long stay in Taurus - until August 1st. This is good news because a strong Venus often gives comfort and joy. Taurus also represents material comfort, and this placement of Venus will add to creative enjoyment. If your rising signs are Taurus, Leo, Scorpio or Aquarius, this transit is especially pleasant for you.
What can we do in face of the drama unfolding in the world around us?
The earth signs are strong this month. Draw from their qualities! Capricorn is practical, cautious and persevering. Taurus is tenacious, creative and knows how to appreciate life. This is a good time to practice these qualities.
What else can we do? Meditate! Pray for global healing and peace!
“After deep prayer and meditation he (the devotee) is in touch with his divine consciousness; there is no greater power than that inward protection.”
