Saturn in Capricorn 2020-2023

By Lina Preston

Saturn’s journey through the twelve signs is slow and his influence is deep. Saturn brings to light the karmic issues of each sign he transits. What can we expect during Saturn’s stay in Capricorn?

From Dynamic Fire to Solid Earth

Saturn’s transit in the previous sign Sagittarius - a fire sign representing morals, ethics and law - has showed us deep divisions when interpreting right conduct and justice. Saturn, a first rate malefic, has the power to block, to cause obstruction and delay.

The energy of the earth sign Capricorn is cool and firm. Saturn rules this sign and is strong here.

Solid Matter

Capricorn is the last of the Earth signs. It is also the first of the winter signs (in the northern hemisphere), a time when the ground is frozen and hard.

Rocks, mountains and all products beneath the earth are governed by Saturn. Saturn (and Capricorn) govern the core structure of buildings and hierarchies.

Saturn in Capricorn wants us to face reality. Saturn is ambitious and thorough, aware that each step on the way towards the top needs attention. Capricorns are determined and know how to work methodically.

Capricorns understand the need for safety and security and will brace themselves for hard times. They can be frugal and many Capricorns enjoy simple living.

They must watch out for selfishness. Being selfish can make a Capricorn hard, rigid and demanding. Capricorns, however, often have group consciousness. They are workers. They labor. They understand well that “many hands make a miracle”. Togetherness is power.

A Wake up call

Planet Earth needs attention! During Saturn’s transit in Capricorn we will have to face environmental problems and do everything we can to save our planet. We need to listen to the call of duty. We need to be of service to our mother Earth.

Perseverance

“If at first you don’t succeed, try, try, try again.”

Saturn and Capricorns are hard, tough and solid. Their real strength lies in their ability to persevere. Saturn rules longevity and he wants things to last. To persevere implies hard work, humility and patience.

Perseverance is of prime importance on the spiritual path. As Paramhansa Yogananda puts it: “Perseverance is the whole magic of Spiritual Success.”

Peace and blessings for the New Year!
